Fixed PlusPoints upgrade chart to be retired in favor of dynamic pricing
As part of its 2026 program update announced on December 8, 2025, United said that beginning in February 2027 it will retire the fixed chart for PlusPoints upgrade amounts and move to a dynamic system in which the points required vary by route, cabin, timing, and demand. This removes pricing predictability from a core elite benefit. The same announcement included some positive changes, such as upgrades becoming available on award tickets from February 1, 2026.
What to do: Use banked PlusPoints on the fixed chart before February 2027.
