Major award chart devaluation, especially premium cabins and partners
67,500 miles (Asia Region 2 first, one-way) → 110,000 miles
Effective for awards booked on or after March 22, 2016, American implemented a new award chart that raised many long-haul premium redemptions substantially while splitting some pricing between American-operated and partner flights. Examples included Asia Region 2 first class rising from 67,500 to 110,000 miles one-way and South Pacific business from 62,500 to 80,000. Some short-haul economy awards decreased. The change aligned AAdvantage more closely with United and Delta pricing after the US Airways merger.
What to do: Post-merger chart resets often hit premium partner awards hardest; lock high-value space under the prior chart when notice is given.
