Wyndham Rewards expanded its fixed free-night chart from three tiers to four on September 15, 2026. The bottom rate fell from 7,500 to 5,000 points per night and a new top tier of 45,000 points was added. Analysis of the full inventory shows roughly one-third of hotels now require more points than the day before.
What exactly changed
The prior structure charged 7,500, 15,000 or 30,000 points per bedroom per night. The new structure is 5,000, 15,000, 30,000 and 45,000 points. Hotels were redistributed across all four levels at the same time. Bookings made before September 15 keep their original rate; any later drop is automatically refunded in points. Points-plus-cash rates were adjusted in parallel, starting at 500 points plus cash for the new lowest tier.
Who is affected and the honest math
Upgraded Points compared the complete pre- and post-change hotel lists (8,404 properties). About 34 percent became more expensive, 22 percent cheaper, and 44 percent unchanged. The largest single move was 2,040 hotels that rose from 15,000 to 30,000 points. Another 62 properties moved from 30,000 to the new 45,000-point tier; two jumped from 15,000 straight to 45,000. Wyndham states the 45,000-point tier applies only to a small number of its most elevated hotels and that the bulk of the portfolio remains in the three lower tiers.
What to do
Existing award reservations are protected at the old price. If a property you already booked later drops in points cost, the difference is refunded automatically. For future stays, search the new chart directly; properties that moved upward are now locked at the higher rate. Transfer partners that feed Wyndham (Chase Ultimate Rewards at 1:1, Capital One, Citi, Bilt, Wells Fargo at 1:2) are unaffected in ratio but deliver less value at any hotel that rose in price.
The pattern it fits
This is the second structural change to Wyndham’s fixed chart since the three-tier system launched in 2019.
