August 1, 2017
Rule first documented
Date approximate; Doctor of Credit estimated the tightening began around early August. Arrival card applicants were told by reps that approval was hard-coded against a certain number of new cards in 24 months, with one reader told six or more; Barclays had long limited how many of its cards one could hold and required six months between them.

Rule documented (second bonus on same card after 24 months; no duplicate cards)

Program-level "have or previously had an account" language documented as unenforced
Doctor of Credit found the wording, resembling a once-per-lifetime model, present since at least October 2020 on cards such as the Wyndham Business, but saw no sign it was enforced or that it affected the unofficial 6/24 rule.

August 1, 2017
Rule documented as long-standing practice
Date approximate. Doctor of Credit described Barclays' historical approval criteria as not holding too many Barclays cards at once and not getting a new one within six months of the last; Frequent Miler later described the same six-month spacing as a general expectation with exceptions.
