Basic Economy tickets stop earning miles and Loyalty Points
2 miles and Loyalty Points per $1 → 0
Basic Economy tickets purchased on or after 12:00 a.m. CT on December 17, 2025 earn no AAdvantage miles and no Loyalty Points toward elite status. Previously these fares earned 2 miles and Loyalty Points per dollar, versus 5 per dollar on Main Cabin and above. The change was applied by purchase date, so Basic Economy tickets bought before the cutoff continued earning under the old rules regardless of travel date. American confirmed the policy publicly, aligning with Delta, which has not awarded miles on its basic fares since 2021.
What to do: Add your AAdvantage number anyway for elite benefits, but expect zero earning on Basic Economy fares.
