First class awards restricted to Skywards elite members

Effective May 12, 2025, Emirates limited first class Classic Rewards bookings to Skywards Silver, Gold, and Platinum members, cutting off general (Blue) members regardless of mileage balance. The policy appeared as a website notice on May 10, giving roughly two days' notice and no direct member communication. This closed one of the most aspirational redemptions to holders of transferred US bank points unless they hold Emirates status, which US members can obtain through the program's co-branded credit cards. Upgrades from business to first class with miles remained available.

What to do: Non-elites wanting Emirates first class can book business and upgrade with miles, or earn status via the US co-branded cards.
