Gift card redemptions capped at two per 24 hours and $300 per week

no stated gift card redemption limit2 gift cards per 24 hours; $300 per 7 days

Effective August 6, 2026, Amtrak Guest Rewards limits third-party gift card redemptions to two gift cards per rolling 24-hour period and $300 in aggregate value per 7-day period, regardless of gift card brand, denomination, or delivery method, with over-limit attempts automatically blocked. Amtrak announced the change to members by email in advance, framing it as protection against fraud and unauthorized redemptions, and the limits now appear in the program's published terms and conditions, which also warn that circumvention attempts can result in forfeiture of points or account suspension. Gift cards redeem at roughly 1 cent per point, so the cap chiefly affects members who cash out large balances rather than redeeming for train travel, where per-point value is typically higher. The program is fed by Amtrak's co-branded FNBO Mastercards.

What to do: Large balances destined for gift cards now need to be drained in $300 weekly increments — or better, redeemed for travel at higher value.
