Wanna Get Away earning cut by two-thirds without notice

6 points per $1 (Wanna Get Away base fare)2 points per $1

Effective for flights booked on or after March 4, 2025, Southwest cut Rapid Rewards earning on Wanna Get Away fares from 6 points to 2 points per dollar of base fare, and on Wanna Get Away Plus fares from 8 to 6 points per dollar, while Business Select rose from 12 to 14 and Anytime was unchanged. The change was made without member notification and confirmed by Southwest in statements to media after members discovered it. Elite bonuses compound the cut: an A-List Preferred member on the cheapest fare dropped from 12 to 4 points per dollar. The reduced 2x rate carried over to the Basic fares that replaced Wanna Get Away on May 28, 2025.

What to do: Compare fare tiers with the earning differential in mind; the cheapest fare now returns roughly 2–3% in points value.
