Unannounced award increases of up to 200% at Japan properties
8,000 points (affected properties, per night) → 25,000 points or more
Around June 7, 2026 (date approximate), Choice Privileges increased award prices at many hotels in major Japanese cities without notice, with point requirements jumping by as much as 200% at affected properties. Hotels that previously priced around 8,000 points per night moved to 25,000 points or more, with popular properties hit hardest; not all hotels were affected. Japan redemptions had been widely considered among the best uses of Choice points. A further round of Japan increases followed in July 2026.
What to do: Choice points still hold value at mid-tier properties where cash rates run high; re-check Japan pricing before transferring.
