Aviator Silver Benefits Are Ending on Converted Citi Globe Cards: Companion Certificate, Daily Food Credit, and 2X Categories Terminate October 25

Cardholder notices confirm Citi is ending the legacy Barclays Aviator Silver benefits on converted AAdvantage Globe cards — most on October 25, 2026, with the companion certificate and 15,000 Loyalty Points on separate clocks. Here are the three deadlines and what to use before each one.

Aviator Silver benefits ending on converted Citi Globe cards October 25 2026

When Barclays handed its American Airlines card portfolio to Citi on April 24, holders of the old Aviator Silver card landed in an unusually good spot: their cards became the Citi AAdvantage Globe Mastercard, and for a limited time they kept the Silver's legacy benefits stacked on top of the Globe's new ones. Per cardholder notices now circulating — first surfaced in a thread on r/americanairlines and noted by View from the Wing on August 10 — that window now has an end date. Most of the legacy benefits terminate on October 25, 2026.

If your Globe card began life as an Aviator Silver, this is worth ten minutes of attention, because the terminations run on three different clocks — one in October, one tied to your card anniversary, and one at the end of February 2027. Citi has issued no press release; everything below comes from the notices themselves and prior reporting on the conversion.

What exactly is ending, and when

According to the notice, purchases made on or after October 25, 2026 will no longer earn 2X AAdvantage miles on car rentals or 2X on hotels — both drop to the base 1X. The $25 daily food and beverage credit and the $50 anniversary Wi-Fi credit end the same day. These four were carried over from the Aviator Silver and never existed on the Citi-native Globe card.

Two benefits get longer runways. The Barclays companion certificate — historically earned with $20,000 in spend during a cardmember year — can be earned one final time through your next cardmembership anniversary, after which it disappears from the account; certificates already earned remain valid through their printed expiration dates. The up-to-15,000 additional Loyalty Points spend benefit survives through the status qualification period ending February 28, 2027, and is then removed. That February date matches what Frequent Miler reported at conversion time, when it was the only sunset Citi had committed to.

Who this actually affects — and who it does not

This applies only to Globe cards that were converted from the Barclays Aviator Silver in April. If you applied for the Globe directly through Citi, nothing changes for you: the Citi-native card never had these benefits. Its own perks — four Admirals Club Globe passes per calendar year, up to $100 in annual inflight purchase credits, the $100 splurge credit, and its earning structure — are not mentioned in the notices and appear unaffected. The Aviator Silver was never open to direct applications; it existed only as an upgrade from the Aviator Red. That makes this a closed, finite population of cardholders — precisely the kind of group large card sites tend not to write for, and precisely the group with the most spend-based value at stake.

The honest math: what to use before each deadline

The $25 daily food and beverage credit is the sleeper here. On the old Silver it applied per day of travel, which for a frequent American flyer was worth far more than the Globe's $100 annual inflight credit. If you have American travel booked before October 25, inflight purchases on the converted card still trigger it; after that date, only the Globe's $100 annual credit remains. The $50 Wi-Fi credit follows the same October 25 cutoff.

The companion certificate deserves a calendar check. Your eligibility runs through your next cardmembership anniversary — not through October. If your anniversary falls in, say, December, and you are within reach of the $20,000 spend threshold, that spending still buys a certificate worth real money on a domestic round trip for a companion at $99 plus taxes. If your anniversary already passed recently, your final earning window may be nearly a full year; if it is imminent and the spend is out of reach, redirect that spending elsewhere. Loyalty Points chasers have until February 28, 2027 to hit the spend thresholds for the up-to-15,000-point bonus, which remains one of the cheaper paths to status qualification while it lasts.

Then comes the keep-or-cancel question. Frequent Miler's April reporting indicated converted cardholders retained the Silver's $199 annual fee at least initially, while the Citi-native Globe charges $350; the new notices do not address which fee converted accounts pay at future renewals, and we would treat that as unresolved until Citi says otherwise. Once the legacy benefits are gone, a converted Globe is simply a Globe, and it has to justify whatever fee lands on your statement on its own merits. Our framework for that annual decision is here.

The pattern it fits

Portfolio conversions follow a familiar arc: preserve everything on day one to keep the transition quiet, then converge the acquired accounts onto the standard product once the dust settles. Frequent Miler warned in April that the stacking window "could narrow or close with advance notice at any time." Six months after conversion, it is closing — with notice, to Citi's credit, but closing all the same. It lands in the same season as the Citi AAdvantage Executive card's fee increase to $695 and American's Admirals Club price hikes, both effective August 23: across the American Airlines card ecosystem, 2026 is the year the terms get rewritten. The bottom line

If your Globe card was an Aviator Silver, mark three dates: October 25, 2026 for the daily food and beverage credit, the Wi-Fi credit, and the 2X hotel and car rental earning; your next cardmembership anniversary for the last companion certificate; and February 28, 2027 for the final run at the 15,000 bonus Loyalty Points. Use what you can before each one, then judge the card as what it will be — a standard Citi Globe — rather than what it was. Nothing here requires panic; it requires a calendar.

Frequently asked questions

Do all Citi AAdvantage Globe cards lose these benefits?
No — only Globe cards converted from the Barclays Aviator Silver in April 2026. Cards opened directly with Citi never had these legacy benefits, and the Globe's own perks (Admirals Club passes, the $100 inflight credit, the splurge credit) are unaffected by these notices.

Can I still earn the Barclays companion certificate?
One final time: the $20,000-spend requirement can be completed through your next cardmembership anniversary, whenever that falls. Certificates already earned stay valid through their printed expiration dates. After your anniversary passes, the benefit leaves the account permanently.

What happens to the card after October 25?
It becomes, in effect, a standard Citi Globe — the legacy 2X categories and credits end, while the 15,000 Loyalty Points benefit runs until February 28, 2027. At that point the card should be judged on the Globe's own benefits against whatever annual fee applies to your account.
