Elite complimentary upgrades limited to one cabin on premium routes
Effective August 25, 2026, on nine premium transcontinental and Hawaii routes that offer a Premium Economy cabin, AAdvantage elite members booked in economy are eligible for complimentary upgrades only to Premium Economy — no longer through to business class. The change ends double-cabin upgrades on these routes; elites booked in Premium Economy can still upgrade to business. American announced the change on its AAdvantage program updates page.
What to do: Elites on these routes: an economy ticket no longer has a path to business — book Premium Economy if the business upgrade matters to you.
