Unannounced award repricing raises business class rates and adds connection surcharges

55,000–65,000 miles (AA business to Europe, lowest one-way)77,000 miles

In early August 2026 (date approximate), Thrifty Traveler documented unannounced increases in AAdvantage dynamic award pricing. The lowest rate for American's own business class to Europe rose from a prior 55,000–65,000 miles one-way to 77,000 miles. Japan Airlines business class to Tokyo still starts at 60,000 miles nonstop, but itineraries adding an American connection now price 20,000 miles higher (80,000 total), with a 10,000-mile add-on in economy. The same report documents shrinking partner award availability on Qatar Airways, Cathay Pacific, Iberia, and Qantas, with some partners limiting bookings to one passenger per flight. AAdvantage has no published saver chart, so changes surface only through member and independent documentation.

What to do: Book AAdvantage premium awards when acceptable pricing appears; nonstop JAL flights still price at 60,000 miles.
